John Heckman
John Heckman has worked
in the legal industry for almost 30 years. He formed Heckman
Consulting,
LLP, in 1997 after several years with Kraft Kennedy & Lesser, a
premier systems integrator for the U.S. legal market. Prior to that, he
worked in technical support at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy
in
New York. While at Milbank, he was a member of the software evaluation
committee.
Prior to entering the legal field, John
received his PhD in Comparative Literature from Cornell University and
taught for several years at Brandeis and Boston Universities.
John is a Consultant primarily for Worldox document management. He is a
member of the Worldox "Inner Circle," composed of what
Worldox considers to be its senior consultants. In the past, he has
been a Certified
Consultant and Trainer for Amicus Attorney. He was a Certified
Consultant for PClaw (1998-2007) and Time Matters (2001-2007).
The
"Tips & Tricks" section of the World Software web site, www.worldox.com,
states "We'd like to thank John Heckman of Heckman
Consulting for these tips & tricks, and invite you to visit his
blog, Does
It Compute?, for even more.
While you're there, don't forget to download his superb Worldox
GX Cheat Sheet, too."
Heckman Consulting has assisted numerous
firms in assessing their technology needs, establishing technology
plans and budgets. In his view, the selection of particular software
must be seen as a function of the firm's real and perceived needs.
Software selection is the end of the process, not the beginning.
He has contributed Technofeatures and a
SmallLaw column on the Technolawyer listserv. His articles have been
reprinted in Law Office
Computing, the ABA's Law
Practice Today, Bar Association
journals in Indiana, Michigan,
Ohio, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming, as well as in Legal
Times (Washington D.C.), the Legal
Intelligencer, The
Lawyer's PC , Peer
to Peer (Quarterly Newsletter
of
LawNet), and on various web sites such as law.com and lexisone.com.
